Sustainability wins!

Association for Retail Environments’ inaugural Sustainability Awards chose as project of the year REI’s Round Rock’s store (Texas), for “marrying a holistic, comprehensive sustainable approach with outstanding design aesthetics and functionality”.

Launched at GlobalShop 2009, ARE introduced this special initiative to encourage excellence in sustainable retail design. All entries attending the awards were electronically reviewed by A.R.E.’s Sustainability Council, grouping designers and suppliers from various perspectives and expertise in sustainable retail design. Judges’ recognition and highest honour so went to those projects balancing comprehensive sustainability programs with good design.

On the 2nd place, D.C. restaurant Founding Farmers and the Boise, Idaho, North Face store. You can read about all winning projects in the July/August Retail Environments magazine.
