Ever since she was a child, the Countess Lene Thun (1926-2004) loved to make graceful pottery creations modeled with clay. When she grew up, her passion for pottery became a successful business intuition: the fine creations of the THUN company, founded in Bolzano in 1950 with her husband Otmar, is now known all over the world.
"To bring joy to yourself and others" was the motto of the Countess Thun that is now put into practice thanks to the Countess Lene Thun Foundation NPO, and which has been strongly supported by her son Peter Thun after her death.
Since 2006, the Foundation has been promoting workshops and recreational therapy activity in the oncology and hematology pediatric wards of 15 Italian hospitals, social labs and workshops in rehabilitation centers, retirement homes and foster homes.
Scientific studies confirm that recreational therapy can support traditional pharmacological therapies. Shaping ceramics is great fun and makes young patients very happy, helping them to express their feelings and forget their fears.
All activities are coordinated and managed by a staff of the foundation's ceramists, together with more than 220 volunteers active throughout Italy.
Grottini Retail Environments is proud to support the Countess Lene Thun Foundation charity activities during this Christmas season and throughout 2017. Happy holidays to you all!
